Get it... GOD it... Good!
TITUS 3:3 For we ourselves also were sometimes foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving divers lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another.
Tanner was inspired. Now Get this, with all the getting that you have: He was not inspired that we should be better Christians. We have a better promise than that. It has been said that “being a better Christian” is like someone already with child who is trying to be more pregnant. The inspiration is that we should all awake to righteousness, that we should both awake and sing. That the eyes of our understanding would be open for us to awake to what has already been given to us, that we should struggle together to possess it and that our lives should sing by reason of it.
Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest.
Tanner’s bible tells us in a certain place that: “Women received their dead raised to life again: and others were tortured, not accepting deliverance; that they might obtain a better resurrection: And others had trial of cruel mockings and scourgings, yea, moreover of bonds and imprisonment: They were stoned, they were sawn asunder, were tempted, were slain with the sword: they wandered about in sheepskins and goatskins; being destitute, afflicted, tormented; (Of whom the world was not worthy:) they wandered in deserts, and in mountains, and in dens and caves of the earth. And these all, having obtained a good report through faith, received not the promise: God having provided some better thing for us, that they without us should not be made perfect.
Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.”
I am humbled beyond words that The Daily Statement blog is allowed to share in Tanner’s inspiration. I will try not to add to it, or take away from it. Tanner wanted to give us a shirt that we can all wear.
TITUS 3:4 But after that the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man appeared, 3:5 Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost; 3:6 Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour; 3:7 That being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.
